Strawberry Picking Fun in Perth: 10 Tips for Moms and Kids!

jennaleemckiever

Are you looking for a fun and delicious adventure with your little ones? Strawberry picking in Perth at is a delightful experience that's perfect for kids and families. To make your outing a bit more fun, here are ten of my top tips to ensure your strawberry-picking adventure is a sweet success:

1. Early Birds Catch the Best Berries: Arrive early in the morning to beat the scorching Perth heat and avoid the crowds. Trust me, a cool breeze and fewer people make strawberry picking even more enjoyable - plus you'll get the creme de la creme of the crop! I always try to aim to get there on the first day of the weekend that they're open at the start time (eg. Saturday 7/8am)

2. Cash is King: Don't forget to bring cash for the strawberry box as most, if not all, do not have eftpos facilities.

3. Dress for the Occasion: Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, and don't forget to slather on some sunscreen to protect those little cheeks from the Aussie sun. You'll thank me for suggesting gumboots (and bringing wet wipes to wipe down afterwards!)

4. BYOB (Bring Your Own Box): Bring your own boxes or baskets or to carry your precious strawberry loot. It's eco-friendly and adds an extra dash of fun to the adventure. (Most farms have boxes, but could easily run out, so best to just pack a spare in the car just in case!)

5. Teach 'Em How to Pick: Show your kids how to pick the perfect strawberry. Gently grasp the stem near the berry and give it a little twist. If it comes off easily, you've got a ripe one!

6. Taste-Testing is Encouraged: The best part about strawberry picking is that you can snack as you go! Yip! Make it a strawberry breakfast outing, and let the kids munch on their freshly picked treats. Yummo! Lol one less breakfast for those hungry little mouths!

7. Move those Leaves: Encourage your little ones to pick the strawberries that are hiding under the leaves & send them on a 'biggest strawberry hunt' - you'll praise their work and be stoked for the amount of giant juicy gems they find!

8. Snap Some Pics: Capture the memories with your camera or smartphone. Kids having strawberry juice smeared all over their faces? Priceless!

9. Silly Strawberry Selfies Game: For the older kids (or kids at heart), why not have a strawberry selfie competition? Bring your phone or camera and see who can take the funniest or goofiest strawberry-themed selfies during the picking adventure. It's a hilarious way to create lasting memories and capture those strawberry-stained grins!

10. Say Hi to The Farmers: Don't forget to meet the lovely people behind the farm. Your kids might even get a kick out of thanking the farmers personally for their delicious strawberries.

So there you have it, my top ten tips to make your strawberry-picking adventure in Perth a memorable and fun-filled experience. This year I visited Sue & Tim's farm in Gnangara - this photograph of the 2 boxes of strawberries is from their farm (14Oct23)! Yip! Incredible right!
